Overview[]
The Atmospheric Probe is a Payload item which is capable of being launched into a planet's atmosphere to collect information. After its descent through the atmosphere, it impacts on the planet's ocean of water/liquid/chemicals and is destroyed. It is then automatically removed from the list on the Vehicle menu.
The probe is featured in Mission 18 and requires a Survey Satellite to relay the "information" that it gathers. However, when used in Sandbox, the "information" sent by the Atmospheric Probe to the Survey Satellite does not actually accomplish any task or pre-requisite.
Like with all crew capsules, its thrusters can move it backwards, or rotate the probe.
It uses 5 power.
Trivia[]
- The probe can be placed on top of a Lunar Module Descent vehicle or LK Lander Legs for use on planets. This also makes it appear similar to the Seismometer Experiment.
- The atmospheric probe is the only unmanned spacecraft that can start the reentry sequence.
